Agricultural driers designed for all crops

Perry of Oakley Ltd have been designing and manufacturing grain driers since 1957.Jog trough grain drier article 1957

The latest design of drier is an enhanced version of a design which has literally hundreds installed.

CONSTRUCTION:

The driers are manufactured from pre galvanized steel or hot dip galvanized and plated components. This means that they are ideally suited to outdoor operation.

The tapered duct design maintains an even air velocity over the entire width of the drier - this aids uniform drying.

(pic inside of drying column showing that there are no bolts or flanges to gather dust and rubbish from the crop.)

From the picture it can be seen that the internal surfaces of the drying column are flush and smooth with no internal flanges or bolt heads. This is a great advantage when seed crops are being dried to avoid contamination.

The drier has newly redesigned half ducts at the side of each drying zone these reduce build-up of chaff  but more importantly ensure that grain travelling down the side of the drier has the same amount of drying as grain travelling down the middle of the drier.

Perry Driers also have very wide hot air and exhaust plenums. These offer 2 advantages:

1) They allow more time for hot air to mix and spread from top to bottom of the drier. This promotes more even drying.

2) The fans are further away from the crop and reduces chance of crop lift off with light crops.

DRYING LIGHT CROPS:

When drying light crops at low temperature such as Oilseed Rape one problem can be crop being sucked out of the drier by the fans. Perry have a distinct advantage.

We have a separate bypass plenum which separates the fans from the main exhaust plenum. At the bottom of this bypass plenum we have special air inlets (see photo) called air scoops. These can be adjusted and set to control the amount of air the fans pull through the crop. Because these are not near the drying column the airspeed is not increased in that area and helps to reduce crop lift off.

CLEANLINESS:

Cleanliness of a continuous flow grain drier is very important. To make this as easy as possible there are large hinged access/cleaning out panels in the base of the exhaust air plenum to enable easy cleaning and inspection.

There is also a sight glass so that the level of dust in the exhaust plenum can be monitored without stopping the drier.

There are many small inspection hatches in the side of the drier discharge section to allow east access there as well.

DISCHARGE MECHANISM:

Perry driers have an Infinitely variable discharge roller system. These rollers are always turning so the drier if always discharging drop. This helps to ensure that the drying is consistent and even and because the flow is constant it means that there are no shock loads or surges on conveying equipment.

COOLING:

This is carried out in the final drying sections of the drier. Every drier has a maximum and minimum setting for cooling, this is adjusted by 2 levers operated at ground level to open or shut cooling flaps inside the drier.

Adjustable flaps to change drier cooling levels Cooling air inlets in discharge section AUTOMATIC CONTROL:

All driers have this feature. By monitoring the temperature of the grain entering the drier the control panel slows down or speeds up the discharge rollers to compensate for changes in moisture content. This system will adjust the drier output to deal with steady fluctuations in grain moisture content.

FUELS:

As standard the drier is supplied with a burner to suit diesel oil. Burners can be supplied to run on Biodiesel, Kerosene
