John & Allan Marshall from East Pitkierie Farm in Fife felt their drying and storage system was struggling to keep up with their combine & due to acreage increasing over time they were beginning to struggle with storage space. As a result of the increased yield & with the prospect of higher efficiency the decision was made to upgrade their existing system & increase their storage at the same time. They have a 1300 acre arable farm that includes a 1400 tonne barley store and a 3800 tonne wheat store.
In 2015 they had an M511 (41tph) Perry Drier and a variety of 60tph handling equipment to accompany the drier installed including belt conveyors, store conveyors, aspirator pre-cleaners, belt & bucket elevators & a variety of duct runs. Before this installation their drying and storage system was struggling to keep up with their combine & due to acreage increasing over time they were beginning to struggle with storage space. As a result of the increased yield & with the prospect of higher efficiency the decision was made to upgrade their existing system & increase their storage at the same time.
Once some of the foundations of the new building had been laid the Perry Drier and handling equipment was installed and the rest of the building was errected around it. This helped ensure that the Marshalls maximized the space available for storage.
The new installation was carried out by KM Duncan Agricultural Engineering Ltd, John Marshall chose KM Duncan as they are a local dealer known for their quality workmanship & effective problem solving. KM Duncan recommended Perry drying and handling equipment to Mr Marshall, and he has been very impressed with the machinery so far.
John Marshall said: “We have found the Perry machines have quite low noise levels and we particularly like the Perry PLC control panel. It’s really simple to use and the text message alerts are really helpful. The automatic set up makes getting the drier running at its optimum for our crops really simple, and with the panel including the handling too re-routing the crop is easier than we could have hoped for.
KM Duncan were really helpful with the teething problems at the start, and I would recommend using them. We are really happy with the Perry machines, they are reliable and easy to use.”
When asked would you recommend Perry equipment to another farmer Mr Marshalls response was quite simply "Yes!"
